Africa's role in the debate in the global automotive sector

Manfred Wannöffel and Mondli Hlatshwayo, this year's visiting professor at the Center of Cooperation RUB/IGM (University of Johannesburg), contributed an article entitled “The Automotive Sector of Germany and the Rise of China: What about Africa” to the 11th volume of the Mizoram University Journal of Humanities & Social Sciences.

In the June 1, 2025 issue, they explain the challenges Africa faces in playing a visible role in the global automotive sector. Africa has the mineral resources required for new technologies, but has so far been largely uninvolved in the debate in the global automotive sector, which is being led by China, the US, and Germany.
